Sorry I had a few days off from writing. What I thought was a rough case of Jet lag, turned into a very bad cold. I also should learn how to post pictures because our day two was a picture perfect day.
We were able to meet another person who many of the Keystone people had met (and loved) during the summer internship program. Jeanine had told us about Tatiana and stated that I would be impressed. Well, that was an understatement! Tatiana is a whirlwind of positive energy. I swear, the woman glows ... maybe radiates is a better word. She works all week, helping kids and their families. The "relaxes" on weekends by bringing the kids to her country home to help restore a beautiful, historic Church! She has dreams for the area and if anyone can fulfill those dreams, it is Tatiana.
We all met in out hotel lobby. Dennis saw Francoise, first. She lives around the corner from our hotel and has lived in Moscow for 5 years (her husband, Leon, is working an "18" month project). A few minutes later, we met Emilia and Karin. This was the group that we spent most of our time. Masha had arranged for a van to take us to our first sites of the area. We were heading to Sofrina (please, someone correct me if I spend this wrong or give wrong information).
We arrived in the village around noon (I think ... I was still adjusting to the new time zone). Although it rains a lot during the fall season, the day was sunny and crisp. The red of the church walls really looked beautiful against the blue sky. I have plenty of pictures and will bore you for hours if you ask...
Tatiana met us in the church yard. She introduced us to Father Basile who has done most of the restorations. He was amazing. He explained that this church was one of the few that was not destroyed. It dated back to the 1600s (again, for those that were there, you can correct me by clicking on comments....). I could have spent hours just looking at the beautiful Icons alone!
To be continued ... must finish dinner at the Kennedy home ... Comments
